The blade holder carries the blade and sets how far it protrudes. It's the part that controls cut depth, and a worn or loose holder produces inconsistent cuts no matter how new the blade is.

Both accept all standard Roland blades, including 45° and 60°.
Extend the blade only enough to cut the material and lightly score the liner — roughly the thickness of a credit card is a good starting reference for standard vinyl. Too much exposure cuts through the backing, ruins the tip, and scores the cutting strip underneath. Always test cut before running a job.
Adhesive and vinyl dust build up inside the holder and stop the blade rotating freely, which shows up as rounded corners on tight curves. Clean the inside periodically and replace the holder when the blade no longer swivels smoothly — holders wear out, and a worn one will make a brand new blade cut badly.
