BLUE BEAR® Soy Gel™ 600GL Coatings Remover is a longtime favorite of contractors and other professionals, and works on nearly all types of coatings. The gel clings to vertical surfaces, encapsulates coatings and migrates through multiple layers down to wood, metal, brick or concrete. Made with American-grown soybeans, it is low-odor, non-caustic and biodegradable.
Why shops use it
- Removes topical sealers, acrylics, enamels, urethanes, latex, some epoxies, other single-component coatings and lead-based paint*
- No methylene chloride
- Average coverage of 125 sq ft per gallon on horizontal surfaces and 75 sq ft per gallon on vertical surfaces
- Typically provides about three times the coverage rate of traditional petroleum-based removers
*Lead becomes encapsulated in the gel, preventing airborne particles and allowing for safe removal. Dispose of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
Directions
- Test in a small, inconspicuous area before beginning the project.
- Apply a thick layer with a brush, squeegee or commercial airless sprayer. Applying too thin will cause the gel to dry out before removal is complete.
- When the coating begins to buckle, check with a scraper to see whether it has softened down to the surface. If not, wait longer and recheck.
- Once the coating is completely softened, remove it with a scraper.
- Follow up with BLUE BEAR® Emerge™ 700DG Degreaser for easy clean-up of any remaining residue.
Good to know
- Soy Gel generally will not dry out quickly over long dwell times. Direct sunlight, heat or wind accelerate drying — laying thin plastic sheeting lightly over the product helps keep it moist and working longer.
- Coverage varies with the type and age of the coating, the number of layers and the application method. A test area is the most reliable guide.
- Soy Gel will remove some epoxy and other two-part coatings; test first on those.
